Toast with Oats
Oats are not only the perfect way to start your day with , but also the best way to manage your weight too. Check out the health benefits of Oats here. This recipe is a tasty and easy way to include oats in our diet and this is my entry to WBB #13 (Weekend breakfast blogging) 'OATS' for the month of july, hosted by Madhuli of 'My Foodcourt'. Richa's 'Malai Toast' inspired me to make this recipe.
Ingredients
Bread slices- 6
Yogurt- 3 tbsp
Milk- less than 1/4 cup
Oats- 1/2 cup roasted and ground coarsely
Chilli sauce
Carrot- 1/2 grated finely
Salt and pepper to taste
Butter- 1tbsp
Method
Add all the ingredients except bread in a bowl and mix/whisk well. The batter should not be very thin or very thick, so adjust milk accordingly.
Cut the bread slices diagnolly and dip in the mixture.
Heat tawa and add little butter. place the bread slices , simmer the flame and cook until golden brown on both sides.
serve hot with tomato sauce or mint chutney.

Hi,

Its a whole some toast Prema. Looks great. Viji
Prema,
Inspired by your post on masala oat pancakes( or I would rather call them Oats Oothappam), tried out a few dishes on oats. They came out delicious and I am finally writing to you.
Oats Paniyaram:
Rolled Oats - 1 cup
Ripe Banana - 1(long)
Cardomom - 1 Big
Cocnut Milk Powder - 1/4 cup
Brown sugar - 1/4 cup
Make a powder of the oats alongwith the cardomom in a spice grinder. Combine brown sugar & coconut milk powder. Mash the banana & add the sugar mixture. Add the oats powder. Make paniyarams with the batter on med-med high.
Note: Be patient while cooking these. It takes some time to form the required crust for flipping. If you are not ready for that, just add 1 tbsp of allpurpose flour to the brown sugar mixture. If you prepare the batter time ahead, add a tbsp of rawa to get a crust sooner.
Variation: Replace 1/4 cup chopped walnuts and an egg white for half banana and bake out the batter as breakfast muffins. They are delicious and less fattier than paniyarams.
Oats Upma:
This tastes like our aval upma.
Rolled Oats - 1/2 cup
Mustard,Urad dal, Curry leaves, Green chilies & oil for Seasoning.
Wash the oats and keep aside for 5- 10 minutes without draining too well. Heat oil in a pan and add the seasonings. when the urad dal turns pink, add the oats and cook on med high for 5 - 10 min.s You can use a spatula to break the lumps formed. They wont become mushy. Switch off when there is a nice aroma.
Serve hot with grated coconut & sugar/ any mild spicy chutney for breakfast.
Oats Payasam:
Rolled Oats - 1/4 cup
Coconut milk powder - 1/3 cup.
Brownsugar to taste.
Salt - A Pinch
Grind the oats in a spice grinder to a powder. Heat water in a pan till its hot. Add the coconut milk powder and mix it well. let this cook for a minute and then start sprinkling the oats powder little by little and mix really really well since it can form lumps easily. When the grains become larger, add the salt & sugar and mix well. Servce hot / cold.
The oats used above were the Old fashioned Quaker Oats.
